New setup to characterize superconducting wires of 0.5 m length between 20 K and 60 K under magnetic field
Résumé
A new setup for characterizing superconducting wires under magnetic field is presented. It allows submitting up to 1 T on the wire with the help of permanent magnets. The maximum DC current in the wire is designed for 900 A. The cryostat and the dedicated cooling system, allow changing the temperature from 20 K to 60 K. It produces up to 20 W @20 K and 200 W @60 K. Different kinds of superconducting wires can be tested and compared, YBCO, BiSCCO and MgB2. The design, assembly and test of the setup are presented. The system of permanent magnets that submits the superconducting wire to a magnetic field is especially detailed.
