Extreme value modelling of some glacial processes in Chilean Andes
Abstract
A glacier is a solid ice mass which is fed by solid water (snow, hail or hoarfrost), transforms this solid water in ice and restores it via steam (evaporation/sublimation) or via liquid (water drained by the runoff stream). Such gain and loss of mass is analyzed as a balance (or budget). We will analyze Guanaco glacier which is located in the IV region of Chile (29°S) in the semi-arid Andes, the mass balance measured using the glaciological method in the period 2002-2014 will be analyzed. For statistical modelling we applied Hill and t-Hill estimators from parametrized family of Harmonic mean estimators.The expected dependencies are visible by increase of variance of t-Hill in comparison with Hill estimator. We aim to better understand underlying mechanisms, which can improve the interpretability of data.
