Predisposing factors for shallow landslides susceptibility in southeastern Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Résumé
Applied structural geology and geomorphological characterization studies were carried out, aiming an
environmental analysis, with the assistance of field surveys, fusion images from thematic maps. The choice of this
area in the Rio de Janeiro State - Brazil, was motivated by the recent rising of records of the dangerous landslides in
that region, triggered by heavy summer rainfalls. Morphometric characteristics of features, such as shape, slope and
aspect were analyzed. After the cartographic work of these features with the aid of Geographic Information System
(GIS) technics, using superimposed layers of information and map algebra, charts were build, where the critic areas
were highlighted, with the purpose of subsidize environmental studies. The SE area of Rio de Janeiro brings
together factors that made possible the high susceptibility of landslides; these factors can be natural or
anthropogenic. However, this paper intends to focus on the disposition of the predisposing agents that came from the
heterogeneities linked with physical environment characteristics, such as mechanical discontinuities (in soil/rock
structures), weathering and geomorphology parameters (shape, slope, aspect).
