STRUCTURAL PARAMETER ESTIMATION IN MARINE RISERS USING EXTENDED KALMAN FILTERS

Résumé

This paper presents a methodology to estimate (to indentify) structural parameters of marine risers, so that the estimation can be employed in the evaluation of possible damages in the structure (Structural Health Monitoring). In order to carry out the parameter identification, an extended Kalman filter is proposed taking into account the nonlinear behavior of the riser and the possibility of noise in the measurement signals. To design the filters, two points are considered: (1) a nonlinear model described by a system of quasi-linear partial differential equations with distributed parameters, and (2) the spatial discretization of such model using the Finite Difference Method. Some results in simulation about the proposed methodology are presented in order to show its feasibility.
