A generic video adaptation FPGA implementation towards content- and context-awareness in future networks

Intensive research in the networking domain addresses content- and context-aware features for the Future Internet. Thus, being able to manipulate data flows and to adapt those to given constraints with a minimum resource involvement is a hot topic. On top of this topic, video manipulation is the challenge to undertake in order to optimize resource-consuming processes. However, developing heterogeneous video transcoders take tremendous time. Many algorithmic solutions have been proposed to reduce transcoding runtime but they involve re-development of ad-hoc IPs for every situation, multiplying development cost at a high speed. In this paper, we propose a generic system for video transcoding and its FPGA implementation. This system enables the reuse of already developed IPs, saving time to market for next generation network devices.
