The Fate of Star Formation in Chamaeleon I and III
Résumé
The nearby Chamaeleon molecular cloud complex is an excellent laboratory for studying the process of low-mass star formation because it consists of three clouds with very different properties. Chamaeleon III does not show any sign of star formation, while star formation has been very active in Chamaeleon I and may already be finishing. We will present the results of an unbiased continuum survey for starless and protostellar cores performed toward both clouds with the Large APEX Bolometer Array (LABOCA) at 870 microns. We will discuss the dynamical state and fate of the starless cores detected in both clouds.
