Conceptual design, realization and experimentation on a foldable / unfoldable corrugated curved envelop
Résumé
Paperfolding concepts are here utilized to generate foldable/unfoldable surfaces for architectural and civil engineering applications. After presenting a method to characterize and classify those surfaces, we propose new geometrical configurations deriving from a generalization of "Miura-Ori" to create non-developable geometries with single curvature. A physical model has then been built to test the folding kinematics and to compare results on the deployed state mechanical behavior obtained by finite element analysis.
