A mechanical modeling strategy for squeal prediction on industrial railway brakes

Résumé

Brakes are one of the most important safety components in train operating condition but the brake squeal generated by disk brakes is an everyday source of discomfort for the passengers both inside and outside the train in stations. The development of a mechanical modeling strategy to predict vibrations (and the noise level) of entire disk brake of train has been proposed in the AcouFren project. The goal of the project is to build a numerical tool for vibrations and noise prediction of each part of the brake. The proposed tool will help to understand the role of the pads in brake vibrations and then to find new pad design according to the noise level. Both axle mounted and wheel mounted disks are considered.
