Tris(bispyrene-bipyridine)iron(II): A Supramolecular Bridge for the Biofunctionalization of Carbon Nanotubes via π-Stacking and Pyrene/β-Cyclodextrin Host-Guest Interactions

Thumbnail image of graphical abstract Bridging bio to nano: A simple procedure is reported to fabricate a biosensor by using the capacities of pyrene derivatives which are attached to nanotube sidewalls and to form host-guest complexes with β-cyclodextrins (see figure). A trisbipy iron(II) complex containing six pyrene groups was synthesized and attached to carbon nanotubes. β-Cyclodextrin-modified glucose oxidase was used as a model enzyme to form the pyrene/β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex, thus efficiently immobilizing the enzyme.
