Des vices et des vertus Réflexions sur un symbole médiéval
Résumé
This article is a commentary on the figures of the vices and virtues painted by Giotto at the dado level of the Scrovegni Chapel, whose walls recount the universal and individual drama of salvation. In the chapel Giotto creates a binary system, where each virtue has its natural and opposing vice as opposed to tripartite division of the Thomist system, where each virtue can potentially lead to two opposing sins. The article studies the modifications Giotto brought to the Thomist system to adapt it to the exigencies of art.
