Parameters determination of electrolytic capacitor model by genetic algorithm

Thanks to their large capacity and their low price, electrolytic capacitors are used in many fields of power electronics, mainly for the filtering and energy storage functions. Their characteristics vary strongly according to the frequency, temperature and aging time. These two last parameters are generally not taken into account in electrical simulation software. In this study, we propose a simple model taking into account the characteristics variations of the electrolytic capacitors according to the aging time, temperature and frequency. The parameters of this electrical model capacitor are calculated by using a genetic algorithm method. The model used could be implement in any type of simulation software. This identification was carried out for large electrolytic capacitor of rated value 4700μF/500V.
