Flow Field Characterization of a Gas Turbine Injector using PIV at 10-15 kHz

Résumé

The present work details the analysis of the aerodynamics of an experimental swirl stabilized burner representative of a gas turbine burner. This analysis is carried out using High Frequency PIV (HFPIV) measurements in a reactive situation. Up to now, this information is usually available at a rate of about 10 Hz, which makes it possible to obtain statistical quantities only. To better understand highly turbulent swirled flows, which are unsteady by nature, High Frequency PIV is necessary. Thanks to recent technical improvements, a PIV system working at 10-15 kHz has been developed to study this experimental combustor flow field. Using HFPIV, statistical quantities of the burner are obtained and analyzed, while a temporal analysis of the velocity field is carried out, indicating that large coherent structures periodically appear in the combustion chamber.
