Résumé

In this work, fracture characteristics of a die-cast magnesium alloy AM60B sample under tensile loading were studied. A highresolution X-ray tomography analysis was performed at four different loading levels on a 1 mm × 1mm × 11.5 mm sample cut from a die-cast corrosion plate. The differences in distribution, volume, shape and fraction of pores at each loading level are analyzed. It was found that pore growth and coalescence resulted in the fracture of the AM60B sample. A critical strain model was used to predict the mechanical properties of the magnesium sample. This study indicates that mechanical properties of magnesium die castings may be predicted if the local pore density is known.
