Functional role of the If current in pacemaking, and features of a novel If inhibitor - Procoralan

Résumé

Cardiac pacemaker activity originates in specialized sinoatrial node myocytes that are characterized by their ability to beat spontaneously. This short article describes the dynamic ionic mechanisms responsible for the genesis of spontaneous heart beats, and how Procoralan operates on these mechanisms.
