Metalloporphyrins fused to imidazolium rings: synthesis and some applications for these new molecules

Résumé

The functionnalization of metalloporphyrins is a topic af great interest. In this communication, we will present the synthsis and the properties of metalloporphyrins fused to imidazolium rings. These imidazolium salts can be used as N-heterocyclic precursors and allow the anchoring of organometallic species at the periphery of the porphyrin. Some organometallic species and their properties, including catalytic properties, will be presented. The imidazolium porphyrin systems are also interesting candidates to design new molecular sensors. We will show that the zinc(II) porphyrin dye fused to an imidazolium ring is a promising colorimetric molecular probe for the rapid and selective detection of the hazardous cyanide anion.
