Effect of sinusoidal surface roughness under starved conditions on rolling contact fatigue

Résumé

Starvation combined with surface roughness drastically reduces fatigue life. On the basis of the results obtained earlier, concerning the effect of sinusoidal surface roughness on rolling contact fatigue under elastic dry contact assumptions and relations established by Venner et al. and Morales-Espejel et al., the authors have developed an analytical formula to calculate the pressure increase as a function of contact conditions and waviness parameters. They finally proposed a risk master curve for lubricated conditions with sinusoidal rough surfaces.
