Laparoscope Sizing Approach Based on the Virtual Exploration of the liver's Surface
Résumé
This paper deals with the sizing of a multi degree of freedom laparoscope. It focuses on the specification of the minimum laparoscope length required to attain any point of the liver surface. To reach these points a research of a virtual path from an insertion point located in the abdomen is carried out. The presented work considers three cases: (i) two peculiar points one on the insertion surface and the other on the liver surface; (ii) one peculiar point on the insertion surface and any point of the liver surface; (iii) any point of both the insertion and the liver surfaces. We provide a numerical example to illustrate these procedures. Finally, we present a discussion about the advantages, drawbacks and perspectives of this work in the development design process of a multi degree laparoscope.
