Optimal operations scheduling in a crossdock with multi strip and multi stack doors

Résumé

Crossdocking is a logistic technique employed to reduce the inventory holding, order picking, transportation costs as well as the delivery time. Products arriving to the crossdock are unloaded from inbound trailers and loaded into outbound trailers within less than 24 hours. Here, we consider a crossdock with multiple inbound and outbound docks. Each outbound trailer serves a single destination, d, d=1...D. Each inbound trailer may contain products for several destinations. If an outbound truck in destination to d is present at docks, the products in destination to d are directly loaded into the outbound trailer. Otherwise, they are temporarily stored incurring a unit holding cost of h. Likewise, a truck replacement cost of r is paid for each trailer removed from an outbound door and temporarily parked in a parking zone. In this paper, we propose a method based on dynamic programming to find the best schedule of transshipment operations which minimizes the sum of the holding and truck replacement costs. Several numerical experiments are presented to evaluate the performance of the method.
