Modification of the catalytic properties of composite dense membranes of BIMEVOX for propane oxidation in a catalytic dense membrane reactor

Résumé

Used as dense membranes in a catalytic dense membrane reactor, Bi2V0.8Me0.2O5-Δ (BIMEVOX) are more or less active in the oxidation of propane according to their surface roughness. When the surface roughness is low propane is oxidatively dehydrogenated to propene. Increasing surface roughness leads to transitory phenomena with production of hydrogen suggesting that the O2- diffusion from one side (high partial pressure of O2) to the reaction side is rate-limiting. Attempts to modifiy the reactivity of membranes were made by adding cermets in order to increase the rate of O2- diffusion. The selectivity can be tuned by applying an electric potential or imposing a current.
