The development of initiating and execurion of ball interception in children/Ontogenèse des mécanismes de traitement de l'information impliqués dans le déclenchement et l'exécution d'un mouvement d'interception.
Résumé
The aim of this research was to study the age-related evolution of information processing involved in selecting and programming a ball interception movement. The evolution of these processes is hypothesized as being asynchronous. The factor of uncertainty, which is considered as affecting the response selection stage, and the factor of complexity, which is considered as affecting the response programming stage, were experimentally manipulated. Results suggest that the response selection process evolves throughout development. This evolution is not linear but presents critical periods. On the contrary, the response programming process attains functional maturity early in development.
