Musical consonance is considered from a mathematical viewpoint, more precisely in relation to mathematical complexity. The paper involves a discussion of the works of Euclid, Ptolemy, Descartes, Huygen, Galileo Galilei, Kepler, Mersenne, Rousseau, Sauveur, d'Alembert and Birkhoff.
