Résumé

Nowadays, sustainable development is an important variant that economic actors must take into account seriously, especially about the environmental impact of their activities. Industrial companies have an urgent need to reduce the environmental impacts of their activities and resource use. There is a need to achieve more in economic terms, with less environmental impact. Various concepts aiming to reduce pollution, to intensify the use of goods, and to better manage the end-of life of products and systems. Dematerialisation of economy is one the most important through services or combination with products. Consumption without ownership is one of the main characteristics of the “Functional Economy”. These new business concepts are emerging and the focus is on fulfilling the desired function by offering system solutions including services, and when needed, physical goods or products. We talk about Product Service System (PSS) or Functional Sales (FS). Providing the function of a physical product to consumer could become a way to lowering environmental impact and guide them toward more sustainable consumption styles. The environmental potential of this new service oriented solution is seen as better than product but to identify the global environmental impact of a product service system, systematic methodology is required to model the total system. Actually, PSS is considered as a complex concept which, amazingly, doesn't benefit from any specific support method during the development stage (in comparison with physical products). Very few attempts exist in literature about developing, extending or refining methods for designing PSS. In this paper, we attempt to give a design framework of by using of the Blueprinting method developed by Shostack [2], known as a method for developing a pure immaterial service, for the development of PSS. This method depicts the process of service delivery, roles of customers, roles of service employees, and visible elements of service. Service Blueprint answers this question: Who does What, To Whom, How often, under what conditions, and is useful for different actors in company to manage its tasks. We make some proposals for applying the service blueprinting method to a given example of provision that combines at the same time physical products and service parts which can be assimilated to a PSS. Our case study of provision consists in the design and the arrangement of workplace for an organization, combining workplace strategy consulting, architecture (including building works), Furniture and technologies. The original business of the company providing this type of workplace services has taken a new orientation toward services provision instead of manufacturing products (office furniture) based in his know-how in organization and working modes The application of Blueprinting gives aims to create a map of PSS system that models all processes, actions and interactions inside and outside the company. The main goal is to evaluate the total performance of service from economic and environmental side. The decomposition in product, service, infrastructure and actors' networks, is seen in the model. It is important to well design it in order to get a good performance. The proposed model shows the potential source of impact and cost center by isolating each element separately. The idea is to get a deep look on each one and to measure using some indicators (economic and environmental) its performance that will lead to a total view of service pertinence and therefore to find improvement way. Investigations in this way may bring new elements for demonstrating the good environmental potential of PSS.
