INDRUM is the acronym for International Network for Didactic Research in University Mathematics. It designates a community of research that emerged in the beginning of the 2010s thanks to thematic working groups in international conferences: CERME (Congress of the European Society fro Research in Mathematics Education), ICME (Internation Congress on Mathematics Education), EMF (Espace Mathématique Francophone) and RUME (Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education). The network was formally founded at CERME9 in 2015.
INDRUM aims to contribute to the development of research in didactics of mathematics at all levels of tertiary education, with a particular focus on building research capacity in the field and a concern for the development of early-carrier researchers, and for dialogue with the mathematics community. The network has several objectives, including:
- elaboration of a scientific programme that will federate existing research in this field in Europe and beyond;
- development and emergence of international collaborations by applying to project calls at all levels (local, regional, European, international);
- reinforcement of the visibility of these research studies to researchers in mathematics education and to the mathematics community;
- contribution to the development of doctoral programmes in this field.
The first INDRUM conference was held March 31–April 2 2016 in Montpellier, France. INDRUM conferences are biennial and bilingual conferences (English, language of the hosting country) that address all aspects of research in didactics of mathematics at tertiary level, including students' and teachers' practices, teaching and learning of specific mathematical topics. Targeted audience of the INDRUM conferences are researchers in didactics of mathematics, mathematicians and any teacher or researcher that is interested in these issues. All papers and posters submitted to INDRUM enter a rigorous reviewing process in which they are reviewed by a member of the INDRUM Network Scientific Committee (INSC) and another researcher experienced in the topic of the proposed communication. Based on the recommendations of these reviews, the Scientific Leaders of the conference make a decision about whether papers and posters will be included in the conference and the proceedings, which are published online subsequent to the conference on this website.
The INDRUM main mailing list is indrum_AT_umontpellier.fr It is used to communicate information about the network activities or other events that may be of interest to the members of the network. Everybody can post to this list but it is moderated by the INDRUM Network Coordination Group (INCG). Should you wish to join the list, please send an empty message to sympa_AT_umontpellier.fr with the following object: subscribe indrum First_name Family_name (example: subscribe indrum Thomas Hausberger).
