CMMC
The Centre de la Méditerranée Moderne et Contemporaine (CMMC. EA 1193) is a multi-disciplinary research laboratory that brings together historians specialising in cultural, social, economic and political history, civilisation specialists specialising in Italy and Spain, and geographers, united by a common desire to study the Mediterranean world over the long term (16th to 21st centuries) as an area of movement, exchange and conflict. Thanks to its international outlook, the CMMC welcomes doctoral students, lecturers and visiting professors every year. The CMMC is a research laboratory that values multidisciplinary dialogue and national and international collaboration (particularly with Italy, Spain and the Maghreb countries). Both within the IDEX Academy of Excellence 5 'Men, Ideas and Environments' - in charge of SHS programmes - and within national federative structures such as the GIS for Maritime History or the CNRS AR-SHS GDR (Network Analysis in SHS) created in 2016, of which it is one of the founding teams, the CMMC is asserting its structuring vocation in its fields of excellence. Thanks to its recognised expertise, the CMMC is also able to provide support to the local, national and international academic community in the fields of historical database development, cartography, heritage and museography, as well as through the journal (Cahiers de la Méditerranée, a peer-reviewed A-rank journal supported by the CNRS) and collections/publications that it runs.
