Influences sociales sur la prise de décision et la santé : du comportement aux signatures cérébrales

Résumé

Decision-making, behavior, and health outcomes are strongly influenced by social context. Yet, the brain mechanisms that mediate social and contextual effects on behavior and health are only partly understood. My research program addresses this question by using a combination of behavioral and physiological measures, brain imaging (fMRI), and computational techniques. This HDR thesis first outlines my academic trajectory and then summarizes my previous work, including my PhD research on social conflict and action monitoring and postdoctoral work on social influences on pain and affect, and on gut-brain interactions. It then describes my current and future research program on social influences on behavior and health-related decision-making, especially in the context of craving, and food-related decision-making. Two empirical chapters then provide some recent examples of this research: first, a recently published article on developing a brain signature of food and drug craving highlights one of the key methodological approaches I am using, namely the development and testing of reproducible and easily testable brain models (or ‘brain signatures‘). Second, a recently submitted manuscript on how social influences on food choices may generalize based on conceptual learning illustrates my experimental approach and some of the questions I am most excited about in my research, namely how abstract social and conceptual processes can influence decision-making, physiology, and ultimately health outcomes. A brief general discussion summarizes the findings and outlines some ideas for future research. The annexes include a brief statement regarding my team and mentoring approach as well as a detailed CV.
