            <abstract xml:lang="en">
              <p>The flexion of a paw triggered by stimulation of the motor cortex, in cats, is accompanied by variations in support force at the level of the other paws. These postural supports are organized in a diagonal configuration. These phenomena have a central origin and do not constitute reflex activities. Microinjection (0.25 l) of bethanechol (cholinergic agonist) into the dorsolateral pontine tegmentum or of muscimol (gaba-a agonist) or baclofen (gaba-b agonist) into the lateral vestibular nucleus leads to a considerable reduction in the amplitude of postural support. This reduction is selective for early postural responses since it does not affect flexion. Injections of gabaergic antagonists, bicuculline and phaclofen, into the lateral vestibular nucleus cause a selective increase in the amplitude of postural accompaniments. The variations in the displacements of the center of gravity and the center of pressure, after these injections, make it possible to clarify the stabilizing role of postural supports during this type of flexion.</p>

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
              <p>La flexion d'une patte declenchee par stimulation du cortex moteur, chez le chat, s'accompagne de variations de force d'appui au niveau des autres pattes. Ces accompagnements posturaux sont organises suivant une configuration en diagonale. Ces phenomenes ont une origine centrale et ne constituent pas des activites reflexes. La micro-injection (0,25 l) de bethanechol (agoniste cholinergique) dans le tegmentum pontique dorsolateral ou bien de muscimol (agoniste gaba-a) ou de baclofen (agoniste gaba-b) dans le noyau vestibulaire lateral entraine une diminution considerable de l'amplitude des accompagnements posturaux. Cette diminution est selective des reponses posturales precoces puisqu'elle n'affecte pas la flexion. Les injections d'antagonistes gabaergiques, bicuculline et phaclofen, dans le noyau vestibulaire lateral provoquent une augmentation selective de l'amplitude des accompagnements posturaux. Les variations des deplacements du centre de gravite et du centre de pression, apres ces injections, permettent de preciser le role stabilisateur des accompagnements posturaux lors de ce type de flexion</p>
