              <p>In situated visualization, digital data is linked to physical referents in the user’s environment. However, when the environment con- tains multiple physical referents (e.g., buildings in an urban scale model), some may be occluded by others, complicating the user’s ability to point and select them. This issue is well-known in VR, and the literature offers various techniques of occlusion reduction to support pointing at the initially occluded virtual objects in VR. These techniques can be organized into three main categories: moving the objects to reveal them; turning the occluder transparent to reveal the objects behind it; using an additional view to reveal the occluded objects. However, it is uncertain whether these tech- niques are well-suited to reveal occluded physical referents in AR environments. In this paper, we propose occlusion reduction tech- niques dedicated to AR, i.e., used for revealing occluded physical referents in AR and allowing their selection. To this end, we apply and evaluate the three types of VR techniques in an AR context. The results suggest the need for improvements to better fit the physical context. We therefore propose three future works based on the results of the study.</p>

              <p>Dans la visualisation située, les données numériques sont liées à des référents physiques dans l’environnement de l’utilisateur. Cependant, lorsque l’environnement contient plusieurs référents physiques (par exemple, des bâtiments dans un modèle à l’échelle urbaine), certains peuvent être occultés par d’autres, compliquant la capacité de l’utilisateur à les pointer et les sélectionner. Ce prob- lème est bien connu en réalité virtuelle, et la littérature propose diverses techniques de réduction de l’occultation pour soutenir le pointage des objets virtuels initialement occultés en réalité virtuelle. Ces techniques peuvent être organisées en trois catégories prin- cipales: déplacer les objets pour les révéler ; rendre l’occultant transparent pour révéler les objets derrière lui ; utiliser une vue supplémentaire pour révéler les objets occultés. Cependant, il est incertain que ces techniques soient bien adaptées pour révéler les référents physiques occultés dans les environnements de réalité augmentée (RA). Dans cet article, nous proposons des techniques de réduction de l’occultation dédiées à la RA, c’est-à-dire utilisées pour révéler les référents physiques occultés en réalité augmentée et permettre leur sélection. À cette fin, nous appliquons et évaluons les trois types de techniques de réalité virtuelle dans un contexte de réalité augmentée. Les résultats suggèrent la nécessité d’améliora- tions pour mieux s’adapter au contexte physique. Nous proposons donc trois travaux futurs basés sur les résultats de cette étude.</p>
