Background supersites in France, situation in 2025
Résumé
This presentation outlined France's strategy for establishing supersites by 2025 which are specialized monitoring locations designed to collect long-term data on various pollutants. The directive criteria for these sites include their co-location of instruments, representative coverage of several kilometers, and coordination with EMEP and ACTRIS. It detailed the deployment of six rural and six urban supersites, specifying the types of pollutants that will be monitored and the timeline for equipment installation, with initial investments in 2024 and further development in 2025. Finally, it raised several unresolved questions regarding trace measurements, site selection for long-term stability, and potential synergies with health or ecosystem studies.
