AI Agency through an Affordance theory lens: Actualization of affordances by delegation
Résumé
The moment an AI system is implemented within an organization and it starts to operate without human guidance, does it have agency? Answering that question at a moment when AI systems appear to become a reality for practitioners becomes a priority. This paper proposes the use of the socio-material Affordance theory to explore AI Agency, leveraging the concept of Affordance actualization. Through a literature review of 464 journal and conference papers, this research aims to provide a theoretical framework to understand that potential agency of AI systems.
