Implications of Agile Working on Consistency in Localized Content
Résumé
Localization has gone through multiple phases of evolution, but little is known about the general framework that it has come to. It started with the waterfall method and has got to the agile management method. This paper starts with how the agile working method is applied in the localization cycle, and explores the impact of agility on the translation consistency and the position of the language agent in the process. A corpus was used to design a translator-oriented survey addressing inconsistency issues in light of agile practices, such as fast delivery, team work, and repetitive iterations. The textual corpus shows questionable inconsistencies which can be associated with the agile working framework. The survey received 38 answers, providing a deeper insight into the translator’s point of view, which should help in pointing out the weaknesses of the process. The answers reveal how challenging consistency is, which aspects of the localized content are more challenging than others, and how consistency is maintained.
