Quantifying residential demand flexibility: an accessible indicator approach

Résumé

This article proposes a new simplified method for assessing energy flexibility in local energy communities. Energy flexibility, which is essential for the integration of intermittent renewable energy, is often perceived as complex to model. We present an accessible approach based on a simplified indicator that requires little information to be collected, while showing that it can be used to obtain results that are consistent with more advanced methods. Our simulations are based on the REFIT database. Our results show that our method correctly identify at 80 % if houses are in the first or second half of the most flexible houses.
