Effect of narrowband filtering and pulse shaping for Distributed Acoustic Sensing

Abstract

Narrowband filtering to improve sensing range for Distributed Acoustic Sensing is investigated for two different pulse shapes and durations. Results from backscattered signal and phase noise measurements show that filtering is efficient providing that Modulation Instability remains the critical nonlinear phenomenon.
