Laser Assisted Synthesis of Graphene Quantum Dots for Multifunctional Applications

Résumé

Fluorescent nanostructures have been found useful in many avenues.Laser ablation in liquid medium is used to prepare Graphene Quantum Dot (GQD). The low toxicity and greater luminescence activity of GQD takes it into a unique position that cannot be occupied by other conventional Quantum Dots (QD). We present here, laser ablation of a carbon source to produce GQDs using 532nm Nd:YAG Laser. For speeding up the ablation process, an inorganic catalyst is also used with the carbon source. They have shown excellent fluorescence and we propose this method of synthesis of nanostructures as environmentally friendly and faster technique.
