Rib fractures after chest compressions for cardiac arrest: retrospective analysis of the AfterROSC1 and AfterROSC2 multicenter databases
Résumé
In Europe, over 250 000 cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) occur each year. 1 Immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) including external chest compressions is crucial to ensure survival. Bystander CPR is started in approximately 60% of patients and is followed by the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in about a third of cases. 2 Many patients with ROSC after OHCA are comatose and require intensive-care-unit (ICU) admission. Among these ICU patients, 5% to 40% are alive with a favorable neurological outcome on day 90. 3,4
