Postcolonial Rereadings and Transmission: Miroslav Šašek’s Travel Books
Résumé
When the books by Czech artist/architect Miroslav Šašek, written in the 1960s and 1970s, were republished in the 2000s, some of the text was freed of stereotypes linked to diversity. In the case of the book on Australia, intended primarily for children, the language and some of the illustrations from the 1970s have been stripped of racist stereotypes and dated elements of language concerning Indigenous populations. This study will focus on the intersecting visions between Europe and Australia, the evolution of representations, and the rewriting of discourse linked to changing perspectives.
