Numerical simulation of an embankment constructed on liquefiable ground
Résumé
Numerical modeling was employed to explore the behavior of embankments resting on liquefiable ground. The numerical modeling was performed using the OpenSees platform and PM4Sand as constitutive law for liquefiable ground. This article describes the FEM mesh, boundary conditions, constitutive laws, and the calibration of constitutive model parameters. The performance verification of the numerical model was carried out against the experimental results of different centrifuge tests. The verification shows that the constructed numerical model, subjected to strong or weak input, can predict the acceleration response, and the build-up of the pore pressures, especially in the liquefied zones. The numerical model can reproduce also the deformation pattern of the embankment.
