"Literarische und außerliterarische Perspektiven auf das Motiv der Arbeit in Kruso"
Résumé
Work is a central theme in Lutz Seiler's novel Kruso, even though it initially appears to conflict with the search for freedom on the island of Hiddensee. This article first presents the historical-sociological context to which the theme and its variations refer against the backdrop of East German society. In a second step, the significance of work on the island for the protagonist Ed is examined: as a return to his working-class roots, as a way of overcoming his trauma, and as a foundation for his own writing. Intertextual adaptations of the theme are also highlighted.
