A penalized IMEX finite volume scheme for the isentropic Euler system at all Mach numbers

We present a finite volume scheme for the solution of the isentropic Euler system that works uniformly at all Mach numbers. The method employs a flux-splitting approach to handle implicitly the stiff nonlinear pressure term, which is linearized using a penalization technique, while retaining an explicit discretization for the convective contribution. The scheme is asymptoticpreserving in the low Mach number limit, and can also deal with shock waves at high Mach numbers. Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the scheme.
