Schooling of Adolescents in Diverse Family Contexts

Résumé

In today's world, family structures are increasingly diverse and fluid. Many adolescents face challenges as their family dynamics shift-whether due to the breakdown of the nuclear family, single-parent households, or the integration of new family members, such as step-parents or half-siblings. These changes significantly impact adolescents' educational experiences and outcomes, presenting new challenges for schools, parents, and educators.

Drawing on research from my doctoral thesis, this presentation explores the schooling of adolescents within the context of family transformations. It examines the perspectives of key educational actors, including teachers, parents, and school administrators, to better understand how schools can support students navigating complex family situations. The study provides evidence-based insights into how family structures influence adolescents' academic performance and emotional well-being, offering practical recommendations for educators and school leaders.
