The final section of the underground path of the ancient aqueduct of Rodez could have been studied thanks to this operation that was launched on a superficies of 2.5 ha for more than 150 m. A nearly systematic collecting of its material was emphasized on most of the said path, mainly following the pioneering searches done during the 19th century. However, two widened sounding in the trenches 01 and 41 refresh what we’ve known about this building. The first one located in the northern edge of the excavation enabled to study the pipe sole and to date it from the second half of the 1st century or the early 1st century AD through a carbon 14 examination. The second one, on the southern edge, revealed a section that was incredibly well-preserved. The doorjambs that are 0.41 m to 0.49 meter large each are still erected at a height of more than 1 meter. Only the arch is missing. Those walls were built in a quite regular, thin and elongated model, and are made of Rodez or thogneiss extracted from the surrounding banks, agglomerated with a yellowish beige sand mortar used locally. Their inner side shows a pile mor tar covering or 3 or 4 cm of width, preserved up to the original top cut by a bezel on a height from 0.74 m to 0.76 m. They delimitate a canal of around 0.60 m to 0.64 meters of width which the bottom part is surrounded by two side beads, with dimensions of 6 cm per 9 cm of width for a height of 10 cm to 14 cm, separated by a distance of 0.45 m to 0.50 m. On the whole 134.25 m-long sounded path, water level of the aqueduct varies at an average drop of 2.81 cm per meter.
