              <p>This work introduces a novel methodology to assess the performance of Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (PEHs) in order to study auxetic enhancement possibilities. For this purpose, a new approach for evaluating the intrinsic effective Electromechanical Coupling Coefficient (EMCC) of piezoelectric layers is presented. As the current assessment methods are questioned under resonance exposures, theoretical models are presented to suggest what characteristics the harvested power will depend on. A two axis graph is introduced to enable the comparison of different PEHs. The methodis finally applied to PEHs with different types of substrates: filled, hollow and auxetic. First results show that, generally, auxetic structures might not increase the intrinsic EMCC but only improve the elastic energy ratio in the piezoelectric layers.</p>

              <p>Ce travail introduit une nouvelle méthode d’évaluation des performances des récupérateurs d'énergie piézoélectrique (PEH) afin d'étudier les possibilités d'amélioration utilisant des substrats auxétiques. À cette fin, une nouvelle approche pour évaluer le coefficient de couplage électromécanique effectif (EMCC) des couches piézoélectriques est présentée. Les méthodes d'évaluation actuelles sont questionnées pour des expositions à la résonance, des modèles théoriques sont proposés pour suggérer sur quelles caractéristiques la puissance récoltée dépend. Un graphique à deux axes est introduit pour permettre la comparaison de différents PEH. La méthode est enfin appliquée à des PEH avec différents types de substrats : remplis, creux et auxétiques. Les premiers résultats montrent que, généralement, les structures auxétiques ne semblent pas augmenter l'EMCC intrinsèque, mais améliorent seulement le ratio de l'énergie élastique dans les couches piézoélectriques.</p>
