Soviets in Ireland and Factory Councils in Italy (1919-23): A Comparative Study
Résumé
This chapter sets out to define the type of subversive experience of the hundred or so Irish soviets set up between 1919 and 1923, through a comparative study with the Italian factory councils set up during the Biennio Rosso (two red years) of 1919-20. Based on the Irish and Italian cases, the aim is also to suggest some possible reasons why Europe did not follow the same path as revolutionary Russia in the first half of the 1920s.
