Towards the chemical activation of the natural pozzolan of beni-saf for the production of a new geopolymer cement

Résumé

The cement industry is currently considered among the most polluting industries. To deal with this situation, new binders known as alkaline cements and géopolymères have been developed. In this article, the mechanical characteristics of a binder composed of a natural pozzolan from the Bouhamidi deposit of Beni-Saf, which is used with a high rate in substitution of the CEM II/A cement are presented. The new mixture or compound cement is activated by chemical solutions of sodium and potassium hydroxides NaOH and KOH. The results show that, unlike other studies, the use of KOH is better than that of NaOH and that the chemical activation of the new compound cement leads to a significant improvement in compressive strengths, especially at young ages. These resistances can even assure multiple practical uses.
