Using digital technologies to reconstitute the provenance of musical instruments: an overview of new methodological perspectives
Résumé
Digital tools offer innovative solutions to the challenges of provenance research, particularly for musical instruments, where traceability depends on the meticulous analysis of dispersed, multilingual, and often incomplete sources. This complex task, requiring significant time and human resources, can be significantly optimized through emerging technologies. This presentation will explore the potential of digital tools in provenance research, beginning with a definition of digital humanities and an examination of the currently underutilized digital technologies in this field. An overview of the contributions of these tools will be provided, followed by a case study conducted at the Musée de la musique to illustrate their practical benefits.
