Wastewater treatment in island locations
Résumé
SMILO (Small Islands Organisation) is an association that supports small islands (with a surface area of less than 150 km²) in preserving their environment. It focuses its efforts on sustainable solutions in the fields of water and sanitation, waste, energy, biodiversity, landscapes and heritage. It drives activities for an international community of small islands, to boost their skills and facilitate the exchange of ideas for concrete, innovative solutions. SMILO coordinates the “Lérins Islands Marine Habitat Improvement and Sustainable Island Strategy Development” project, financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). In this capacity SMILO is supporting Saint-Honorat Island (France) to improve its wastewater treatment. SMILO has created a group of experts in small island sanitation, to guide and direct the managers of small islands towards improved wastewater treatment. This technical guide has been produced through the work of the expert group.
