‘We’ve got lots of caps but only one uniform’: RATP agents dealing with victims of sexual violence in stations, local care work?
« On a plein de casquettes mais un seul uniforme », les agent·es RATP face à la prise en charge des victimes de violences sexuelles en station, un travail de care de proximité ?
Résumé
This article is based on an ethnographic immersion in a RATP station. The author examines the new role assigned to RATP agents: dealing with passengers who have been the victims of sexual violence. The spatial proximity with the victim inside the ticket office requires to provide a care work for the agent. The article discusses how this new mission interacts with everyday tasks and gender relations in the station. It also highlights the fact that care work is carried out ‘in relay’ and at a distance from other RATP interlocutors who establish an emotional proximity with the victim.
