A serious game to build decarbonization scenarios in the astronomy academic community
Résumé
Gratiot et al. (2023) have designed the game-based transition support system called MaTerre180’ which means “My Earth in 180 minutes” to build scenarios of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions reduction in the academic community. After building a common scientific background about the context (global warming, its causes and consequences) and challenges (50% reduction of our car- bon budget by 2030), the participants immerse themselves into fictional characters, to simulate the behavior of real research groups. The game has initially been built for the geophysical community and we present here its adaptation to the astronomical community. Beyond the presentation of the game in the astronomical context, we show also the main results coming from its global deploy- ment in the French scientific community during the year 2021, including six hundred participants from nine countries and 50 cities.
