              <p>Schizophrenia is a serious mental health disorder which may include symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized behavior. In addition to experiencing a diverse symptomatology, individuals with schizophrenia suffer from significant stigmatization which can interfere with effective treatment of the disorder among other issues. As a primary source of stigmatization comes from healthcare professionals, we were motivated to explore new ways in which to educate healthcare students about the symptoms of schizophrenia. Despite its potential to immerse users in new experiences within a real environment, little research concerning the use of augmented reality (AR) to simulate schizophrenia exists. In this paper, we present Live-It, a tool designed using recommendations from prior work as well as inspiration from lived experiences to educate mental health students about schizophrenia. The simulation uses the video passthrough capabilities of the Meta Quest 3 headset to simulate delusions, auditory hallucinations and additional symptomatology. Using thematic analysis, we evaluated our simulation with nineteen students and eighteen experts in healthcare to understand its ability to engage users and reliably represent symptoms of the disorder, as well as to determine how best to improve upon the design before the tool is widely deployed in mental health curricula. Our findings suggest that participants better understood symptoms of schizophrenia after experiencing the simulation, highlighting the potential of Live-It to be used as an educational tool. We present our design, provide a detailed analysis of our findings, and underline next steps in the development of our tool.</p>

              <p>La schizophrénie est un trouble mental grave qui peut inclure des symptômes tels que des hallucinations, des délires et un comportement désorganisé. En plus de présenter une symptomatologie variée, les personnes atteintes de schizophrénie subissent une stigmatisation importante qui peut entraver le traitement efficace du trouble, parmi d'autres problèmes. Étant donné qu'une source majeure de stigmatisation provient des professionnels de la santé, nous avons été motivés à explorer de nouvelles façons d'éduquer les étudiants en santé sur les symptômes de la schizophrénie. Bien que la réalité augmentée (RA) ait le potentiel d'immerger les utilisateurs dans de nouvelles expériences au sein d'un environnement réel, peu de recherches existent sur son utilisation pour simuler la schizophrénie. Dans cet article, nous présentons Live-It, un outil conçu en utilisant des recommandations issues de travaux antérieurs ainsi que des témoignages de personnes vivant avec la schizophrénie, pour éduquer les étudiants en santé mentale sur cette maladie. La simulation utilise les capacités de vision vidéo du casque Meta Quest 3 pour simuler des délires, des hallucinations auditives et d'autres symptômes. Grâce à une analyse thématique, nous avons évalué notre simulation auprès de dix-neuf étudiants et de dix-huit experts en santé pour comprendre sa capacité à engager les utilisateurs et à représenter fidèlement les symptômes du trouble, ainsi que pour déterminer comment améliorer le design avant que l'outil ne soit largement intégré dans les cursus de santé mentale. Nos résultats suggèrent que les participants comprenaient mieux les symptômes de la schizophrénie après avoir expérimenté la simulation, soulignant ainsi le potentiel de Live-It en tant qu'outil éducatif. Nous présentons notre conception, fournissons une analyse détaillée de nos résultats et soulignons les prochaines étapes du développement de notre outil.</p>
