ELECTROMAGNETIC PEENING: A NOVEL WAY TO TREAT METALLIC PARTS

Résumé

Electromagnetic Peening (EMP) treatment is a novel and unique technique to enhance and replace classical peening processes (such as shot peening). The purpose of the process is to introduce residual stresses at the surface of a metallic material through the generation of Lorentz forces. Being still in development, this technique needs to be evaluated and qualified. This paper will aims at presenting the advantages of such treatment, the characterization process and results.
