Compulsory Conciliation Proceedings Regarding Disputes on Conservation and Management of Fish Stocks

Abstract

This chapter examines the operation and possible application of compulsory conciliation procedures under UNCLOS. The scope of compulsory conciliation may include disputes over sovereign rights with respect to fisheries. However, conciliation only plays a marginal role in the system of dispute settlement under UNCLOS because of its inherent nature as an amicable procedure and because of its articulation with adjudication.
